Jan 2015 - New Pathology Laboratory turns to KR

Kirk Roberts has been selected to undertake the structural engineering for a new 2500sqm specialist diagnostic facility and pathology laboratory onsite at Tauranga Hospital.

Privately owned Pathlab Bay of Plenty is leasing the land and funding construction which, when completed, will enable consolidation across the 3 existing sites.

The new Pathlab is anticipated to be able to process specimens from well over 2000 patients per day- in line with population growth projections for the area .

It is designed to meet international standards and will incorporate a number of advanced features for energy efficiency, functionality and advanced building and medical technologies.

The architect for the new Pathlab facility is APG Architects who are based in Hamilton and have amassed 30 award winning projects to date -from the New Zealand Institute of Architects, Master Builders and the New Zealand Property Council.

The facility is one of several projects APG Architects have undertaken in the highly specialised hospital and medical sector.

Provisions had also been made for a future mortuary.

Stage 1 is expected for completion in Sept 2015.
