June - Kirk Roberts Project for Silver Award

Kirk Roberts Consulting Engineers, as project partner, has won a Silver Award in the 2015 NZ Commercial Project Awards organised by the Registered  Master Builders. Named C Company   Memorial House the building commemorates the 28th Maori Battalion C Company and is the new permanent space for an exhibition which feature photos, taonga and military memorabilia.

Located in Gisborne, C Company Memorial House was entered by Bain Construction Ltd (t/a Landmark Homes) with other project partners Insignia Design and Meng Foon, Project Manager.

Kirk Roberts provided structural, fire and civil engineering services.

Formed in 1939 the 28th Maori Battalion was a World War 11 voluntary rifle unit which served overseas. Between 1941 and 1945 the Maori Battalion achieved a distinguished record gaining more individual bravery decorations than any other battalion.

According to Education Minister Hekia Parata  C Company has a special place in the history of the East Coast region and New Zealand. “The soldiers of C Company were part of one of New Zealand’s finest fighting forces. This house ensures the spirit and sacrifice of the soldiers of C Company is recognised and remembered. Locals and visitors to Gisborne now have a place to go to acknowledge the soldiers contribution and reflect on their triumphs and tragedies.”
