Ground improvement comprising 0.8m diameter stone columns in a 2m square grid arrangement was adopted for this site to reduce ground settlement from earthquake motions. The variable soil conditions beneath the site also required stone column treatment to reduce long-term ground settlement from the self-weight of the four story apartment complex.
